Nicknamed The Strip, the fourth version of the popular Carl Martin Octa-Switch is one of most the compact yet advanced pedalboard switchers going. Just as with its predecessors, the signal path has an all-analogue design to make sure the original sound of your pedals is retained in full. The Octa-Switch sets players up with eight true-bypass FX loops that can be programmed across an equal number of banks and are backed by impedance-free, gold-plated relays. What's also great is that you get to decide whether you want to configure the main input as true bypass or buffered when using long cables, and the face of The Strip comes lined with blue and green indicator LEDs that let you know which loops and banks are being used.
Extensive Control Via the Push of a Button
Here's where things get really interesting: loops 6, 7 and 8 can be pulled from the front-end of the signal chain and dropped in the FX loop of your amp without sacrificing any of the eight loops. Meanwhile, four external switches can be engaged to toggle through amp channels, reverbs, boost or any other piece of kit that can be externally controlled. Also, it's probably worth mentioning that The Strip is the first Octa-Switch that includes MIDI, making it an extremely intuitive and indispensable bit of kit for professional guitarists.

Fantastische switcher, zeer praktisch voor live gebruik on stage. Je kan er ook heel éénvoudig 2 versterkers op aansluiten tegelijk, bv. een clean en een gain amp. Je kan ook gemakkelijk in de presets het gewenste amp kanaal selecteren, enz... Zeer éénvoudig in gebruik en ook heel gemakkelijk om presets op voorhand te programmeren. Ik merk een duidelijk verschil in klank met vroegere (digitale) systemen die ik gebruikte. Het gebruik van deze switcher levert een veel organiser, natuurlijker geluid op. De kwaliteit van je pedals wordt behouden, elke pedaal die niet in een preset wordt gebruikt wordt compleet uit je pedal chain gehaald en heeft er dus geen invloed op. Top! Enige nadeel is dat het een beetje breed uitvalt en niet op elke board past, maar dat weegt niet op tegen het gebruiksgemak en het behoud van de klank van je beste pedalen. In de doos zit er geen gebruiksaanwijzing, enkel online te vinden (maar degelijk uitgelegd). Let wel: de voeding (9V) vraagt een minimum aan 650 mA, dus niet elke voeding kan dit aanleveren. Ik gebruik specifiek daarvoor een MXR Mini Iso Brick (= zeer klein en lichtgewicht) die o.a. een uitgang heeft van 9V / 800 mA. Werkt feilloos.

Works exactly as anticipated and more than enough loops and presets for my needs. Programming is super easy which is the main selling point for me and fx loop input/output for 4 cable method is exactly what I was after. As there is no tuner out/mute switch, I’m running output 2 to my tuner, so it’s not silent for tuning, but for home I don’t care. If I wanted silent tuning I’d put the tuner before the switcher. One thing to note is that all switches are soft switches except the mute/bypass switch which is hard and clicky as it’s true bypass. Made in China but seems built like a tank. I’ve not tested the midi as I don’t have any midi pedals yet.
